AWS Edition · DEA-C01 + AIP-C01
AI-Enabled Database Developer — AWS
The same role and the same FieldNote throughline, built on AWS — Aurora PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, S3, OpenSearch, and Amazon Bedrock. Because AWS retired its database-specific exam, this edition spans two roles and earns two credentials, by design.
In development — scoped, building now
What you’ll be able to do
- Design for the right store — relational vs document vs key-value vs time-series.
- Model in Aurora & DynamoDB — normalized PostgreSQL and single-table DynamoDB.
- Build ingestion pipelines — Glue, DMS, Kinesis, Lambda — batch and streaming.
- Operate & secure — observability, IAM/KMS, cost optimization, CDK CI/CD.
- Build AI-native features — Bedrock embeddings, vector search, RAG, and agents.
Built on
Aurora PostgreSQL · DynamoDB · S3 · OpenSearch · Amazon Bedrock · Glue · Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, Kinesis · CDK · IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager, VPC · pgvector.
How you’ll learn
Self-paced lessons · live flipped-classroom sessions on Zoom · LocalStack-first labs to keep AWS spend minimal · one project — FieldNote — across the whole edition.
Curriculum
The six sub-courses
AIDD-AWS-0
Data & AWS Foundations
For students newer to SQL, NoSQL fundamentals, or AWS itself. Relational and key-value modeling, basic queries, the AWS console, IAM essentials, and the CLI.
▸ Get ready to build
- Relational + key-value
- SELECT
- AWS console
- IAM
- CLI
AIDD-AWS-1
Data Modeling & Ingestion
Where the FieldNote data layer takes shape. Design across Aurora PostgreSQL and DynamoDB, choose the right store, write advanced PostgreSQL, and build batch + streaming ingestion with Glue, DMS, Kinesis, and Lambda.
▸ Builds FieldNote v1 — a multi-store data layer
- Aurora PostgreSQL
- DynamoDB
- JSONB
- Glue
- DMS
- Kinesis
- Lambda
AIDD-AWS-2
Operations & Security
Production data systems must be observable, secure, and cost-aware. Harden FieldNote with CloudWatch and X-Ray, AWS-native security, deliberate cost optimization, and CI/CD with the CDK.
▸ Hardens FieldNote for production
- CloudWatch
- X-Ray
- IAM / KMS
- Cost optimization
- CDK CI/CD
AIDD-AWS-3 AI
AI Capabilities
Where FieldNote becomes AI-native. Select Amazon Bedrock models, generate embeddings, implement vector search with pgvector and OpenSearch k-NN, and build RAG flows with responsible-AI practices.
▸ Makes FieldNote AI-native — Bedrock vector search + RAG
- Amazon Bedrock
- Titan / Cohere
- pgvector
- OpenSearch k-NN
- RAG
- Bedrock Agents
AIDD-AWS-4
Capstone & Data Engineer Exam
Close gaps, defend FieldNote, then prepare evidence-based for the AWS Data Engineer – Associate exam (pass 720/1000) — and bridge to the optional GenAI specialization.
▸ Defends FieldNote, earns DEA-C01
- Capstone defense
- AWS Official Practice
- Timed mock
- DEA-C01
AIDD-AWS-5 AI
GenAI Developer Capstone & Exam
The “AI-Enabled” promise made real. Extend FieldNote with production GenAI: advanced RAG, Bedrock Agents, LLM evaluation and observability, prompt engineering at scale, and multi-model orchestration.
▸ Specializes FieldNote — production GenAI
- Advanced RAG
- Bedrock Agents
- LLM eval
- Prompt engineering
- AIP-C01
Two credentials, by design
AWS retired its database-specific exam (DBS-C01) in 2024 and hasn’t replaced it. Rather than pretend one credential covers the role, the edition earns two — and is honest about it.
- AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate (DEA-C01) — required. Domains 1 & 2 in AIDD-AWS-1, Domains 3 & 4 in AIDD-AWS-2. Pass 720/1000.
- AWS Certified Generative AI Developer – Professional (AIP-C01) — optional but strongly encouraged, earned in the AIDD-AWS-5 specialization.
